Sole Occupant is a celebration of curiosity, confidence, and the delightful unpredictability of cats. Created for the Trekell Pet Portrait Contest—my first art competition entry in close to eight years—the piece features my cat, Vanessa, comfortably nestled inside a shoe she had unmistakably claimed as her own. Composed of hundreds of individually cut pieces of stained glass, the mosaic captures not only her likeness but also the playful personality shining through her bright, expressive eyes. More than a portrait, Sole Occupant represents both a cherished everyday memory and a personal milestone, marking my return to sharing my work in a competitive exhibition after years away.
